FIREHOUSE GRILLE & PUB - Tallmadge Circle - November 28, 2012
First of all I want to apologize to one of our readers, "Big" Al, for falling down on the job. He made a comment to one of our Geezers that he wanted to know why the website hasn't been updated for quite some time.
Well, he is right for the most part. I, Joebo have been posting pictures from our Geezers Nite Out meetings to the PHOTOS page, whenever there were enough to post. However, I have not been keeping up with the Newsletters. I really didn't realize how far behind I was.
In my defense I was out of Ohio for 9 days when I drove a car along with another Geezers, Crazy Richie, to Palm Desert, CA for my sister Cathy. .
Well now that things have slowed down a little bit I can get back to doing my job which is to keep our fellow Geezers and friends abreast of what has been going on in the Geezer World. So I apologize to Al, and anyone else who reads the articles.
The last Geezers Nite Out of November was held at one of our fave new places, The Firehouse on Tallmadge Circle. As we always do on the last meeting night of the month we voted for the places to go to in December. Hard to believe. As often happens we had a tie. When there is a tie we have another vote for the tied locations. The results of that vote and the rest of the meeting locations will be posted on the SCHEDULE page shortly.
Above are two of our bartenders from the evening. On the left is CARRIE with COURTNE. They took very good care of us along with JAMIE. More pictures of all of them along with others are posted on our PHOTOS link.
The Big Buddha had a Celebrity Look-A-Like sighting. He saw a gray haired gentleman at the other end of the bar who resembled Anderson Cooper. From a distance he did look like him.
A friend of The Geezers and Firehouse, Charlie Denny, stopped by to talk with us. He had just returned from a trip to the Big Apple (NYC). He did quite a lot in a short period of time including going to the top of the Empire State Building, and seeing Jersey Boys on Broadway. I was in New York a couple of times a very long time ago. I'm sure that a lot has changed since then.
Something unusual happened Wednesday night that goes back a couple of years when the Big Buddha, R. B., and I went down to Florida in February to see snowbirds Fergie, and Spike who are there during the winter months. We also visited Jim Fish who is now an "official" Floridian. Buddha, R. B., and I had a room at Shephard's Beach Resort in Clearwater Beach. We were there also to watch the Super Bowl on TV at the Tiki Bar. They have a great party. At one point during our stay the Buddha went back to the room. R. B. and I came up later. When we did, we found that Buddha had eaten my piece of pizza that I saved in the fridge, and my whole "giant" can of Pringles. I was not too happy.
Sunday, November 25, Buddha, Drumstir, and I watched the Browns game against the Steelers. The Browns won! Huh? Anywa,y the Buddha brought over a pizza to the Montrose condo to watch the game. When he left he also left behind 3 pieces of pizza. I didn't realize it until he was gone. He also left some paper plates that he brought. He sent me an email to tell me that he realized this, and for me not to worry about the plates. I ate two pieces of the pizza (For revenge), and there was one left. I told R. B. that I was going to bring them to him Wednesday at the Firehouse. He suggested I also bring him that last piece of pizza as a joke. So I put the plates in a bag, and the piece of pizza that I was saving wrapped in aluminum foil in the fridge.
When R. B got there I gave Buddha the bag with the plates and pizza in it. We all laughed. However, it backfired because the Buddha ended up eating the piece of pizza instead of ordering anything from the kitchen. Funny story, huh?
We will be meeting at the Winking Lizard on Ghent Rd in Fairlawn on Wednesday, DEC 5. It will be the first time there for us as a group. Some of us have been there before. For the meeting places the rest of the month go to the SCHEDULE link.
DUSTY'S LANDING YACHT CLUB - Portage Lakes - November 14, 2012
JOHNNY J'S PUB & GRILLE - Springfield, OH - November 7, 2012
The Geezers Nite Out at Johnny J's was a momentous occasion for me. I was a little late gettign there because i had been out at the Apple Store in Fairlawn purchasing a new iPhone5. So I will always rememeber this date. However, what I ahd to go through afterward can not be published here. It was quite an experience. However, I love tha thing now, and Siri, The Voice.
If some of waht I write here doesn't make sense it's becasue I am writing this way after the fact.
We had two guests with us for this meeting. They were Bud Dulin, and Terry Ray. They are two of the band members who I used to play with in a band called The Sudds at The Kove in Kent. Bud is visiting from Germany, and Terry lives in Brimfield..I think!
Above are three of the many bartenders taking care of us for the evening. We always usually sit at the bar. JJ's offers Free Fries for their bar customers. On Wednesday nights they also offer half-price appetizers. JJ's also has a very fine full Menu to order from. Check it out!
Spike had to shut it down early. He had to have some blood work done in the morning. But he was there with his jug of what looks like blood, Campbell's tomato juice.
Crazy Richie, one of our Geezers who was the one taking photos when we first started the site, called me about our trip to California. We had to deliver a car to my sister, Cathy, in Palm Desert, California. Since I am writing this after the fact I can tell you that it was a long trip, and quite an experience. We weren't in any hurry so it took us 5 days. We spent four nights with my sister in California.
The next Geezers Nite Out was at Dietz's Landing Yacht Club on November 14 on Portage Lakes. I was on the road heading West.
We were at Legends on the busiest drinking night of the year, Thanksgiving Eve. This year it was on November 21. Because of that we had to sit at a table...Again! We also did that for Halloween on October 31. The bar where we usually sit was full so we had to sit at a table. Pictured to the left are our waitresses Maria on the left, and Stacy. They were also our waitresses for our meeting on Halloween, Only then they were the Parrot and the Peacock. Look at the end of this article for a pic of them then. Also go to our PHOTOS link for more pics from then and this night!
I (Joebo) was experimenting with the camera in my new iPhone5 phone. On my trip driving out to California and while I was there it worked and looked just fine. But I had no idea how it would perform inside at Legends.
Fortunately, Bud Dulin brought his digital camera. And it's a good thing that he did as the iPhone camera was not at it's best on this night.
to the left is one of Bud's pics.
I had recently returned from my trip to Cali. I passed out a few souvenirs that I picked up along the way. I also brought the prints for the pictures that I took at Legends on Halloween for the Geezers, waitresses, and Tricia.
We also made plans to meet at Johnny Malloy's behind Chapel Hill Mall to watch the Ohio State/Michigan game.
Since I am writing this after the fact I can tell you about the outcome. Spike got there at 10:40 AM. The game started at 1:00 PM. He said that at that time there were no seats at any of the tables, and only 3 seats at the bar where Spike, Robo (His son Rob), and the Big Buddha sat. I arrived about 11:30 AM, and Drumstir, Budman, and R. B. arrived shortly thereafter. Drumstir and I stayed for the first half, and then left for the Brickhouse where it wasn't as crowded for the second half. Billy Bob came in as Drumstir and I were leaving. Oh yeah, Ohio State won! Undefeated 12-0 record.
It became more crowded on this night before Turkey Day at Legends as the night went on. Most of us did order from Legends fine Menu. The Budman had the Wednesday night Special of a Half Slab of Ribs. R. B. did also, but he had two orders To Go which you aren't supposed to do. But he found a way. The Manager in him! Drumstir and I ate healthy. Drumstir had the Chef Salad and I had the Cobb Salad with Steak. Is that healthy?
Our next meeting was at the Firehouse on Tallmadge Circle on Wednesday, November 28. You can read all about it above.
